Digital Cameras in the Classroom

I am excited about all of the possible ideas of digital cameras in the classroom. I have never given it much thought until I read the articles about all of the different ways to do so in the classroom. I found some of these very brilliant:

1. As children are learning the alphabet, have them take pictures of the different letters that
they see around the house, classroom, school building...the ideas are endless.

2. Photograph students dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up and use
the pictures to illustrate career reports.

3. Write a class novel and illustrate it with live-action photos of your students.

4. Show the images from the camera directly onto a television screen. "A day in the life of your students" can easily be done for an Open House.

5. Take lots of pictures while on a class field trip. Have students write a caption for each
picture post the photos and captions to a Web site to create a virtual field trip.

6. Photograph community landmarks and have students create a brochure about your
community.

7. As you study shapes, have the students take pictures of various shapes.

8. As you are studying numbers, assign each student a number and they are to find things that correspond with that number and take a picture of them.

9. The students should be able to create thank-you cards and include digital pictures in the
cards either of themselves or something of their choice.

10. Create a seating chart with photographs for substitutes.

Lindsay~You are right, it does seem endless the things that you can do and create with your students using the digital camera. I hope you remember some of these as you go into the classroom. It is an easy piece of technology to incorporate into your lessons. I think any of the book ideas sound like a lot of fun for your students. There are so many different takes you could do just with this.

Lindsay, I also think that having students take pictures of things that start with certain letters of the alphabet would help them. There are so many things that they can realize start with particular letters. I also do like the idea of having students make their own thank you cards complete with pictures of themselves. That would be so neat.
