Excel Articles

The first article that I reviewed was on one to help motivate children to read. Well, of course that caught my eye and when I read the information, I thought it was a fun and innovative way of using technology and reading in the classroom. A child that reads actually charts his book, pages that he has read, type of book and so on onto an Excel spreadsheet. This way both the child and the teacher can see the reading that has taken place and it is an exciting way for children to chart their own reading progress, and help them achieve their goals for reading.

The second article that I read was on making a daily log of the calories that the child consumed for the day. This has many positive aspects to this fun way to use a spreadsheet. First, it shows how many calories should be consumed vs. how many actually are consumed. It helps the children to be aware of what is good and what is not good for them to eat. It touches on math skills and adding up all of the caloric intake of the day.I'm sure there are many other positive connotations to glean from this activity, but these were just a few that I thought of.
